The Cieza City Council takes another step towards sustainable management of
\ngreen infrastructure incorporating a wood chipper into the service of Parks and
\nGrounds.<\/p>\n
The Cieza City Council, through its Parks and Gardens department, has

The shredded material is used as mulch, improving the
\nsoil structure and fertility, reducing water evaporation and
\nlimiting the growth of weeds. Furthermore, this material provides
\nnutrients naturally, avoiding the need to purchase amendments
\nexternal organic sources, which translates into direct savings in purchasing costs
\nof materials and greater self-sufficiency of the service.<\/p>\n
Implementing this practice also entails a significant reduction in
\nthe costs associated with the transport and management of plant waste, by avoiding the
\ntransfer to treatment plants or authorized managers.<\/p>\n
Taken together, these measures improve the economic and environmental efficiency of
\nservice and contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of municipal activity.
\nThis initiative falls within the objectives established by the Law
\n7\/2022 on waste and contaminated soils for a circular economy, as well
\nas in the guidelines of the European Green Deal, which promote prevention
\nin waste generation and the valorization of natural resources.<\/p>\n
It also complements the work undertaken by the Regional Councils,
\nthat since last year they have incorporated another wood chipper into the tasks of
\ncleaning and removal of reeds and invasive species in the river environment
\nSegura during its passage through Cieza. Both actions demonstrate the commitment.
\njoint effort to move towards a more circular environmental management model,
\nEfficient and aligned with European sustainability policies. With measures
\nLike this one, Cieza reinforces its commitment to a circular and low-carbon economy.

\nCity Accord, of which the municipality is a part thanks to the LIFE- project
