Next Thursday, May 17, the "Five Views of Cieza" series, organized by the Fray Pasqual Salmer\u00f3n Center for Historical Studies in Cieza, concludes with the lecture "The Education of Ciezans: A Long Road Full of Obstacles" at 8:00 p.m. in the Padre Salmer\u00f3n Municipal Library.<\/p>\n

On this occasion\u00a0Francisco Javier Salmer\u00f3n Gim\u00e9nez\u00a0<\/span><\/span>will offer his vision of the long road to literacy in Cieza (including the journey through the Ciezans, which presented even greater difficulties), taking as a starting point the beginning of the 19th century, with the impact of the War of Independence that produced a drop in the level of schooling to 15% in the Spanish team. A difficult path that wouldn't end until the signing of the Moncloa Pacts in October 1979.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

On the path toward universal education, we will find favorable milestones such as the citizen movement that emerged in 1914, led by teacher P\u00e9rez Cervera, or the decisive push that took place in the early years of the Second Republic. And the most numerous resistances, such as the municipal refusal to provide women with education for a long time, or the hindrance caused by the Civil War and the subsequent dictatorship.<\/span><\/p>\n
