This museum displays the last vestiges of esparto culture, collecting the most significant elements of this piece of our collective history: small and primitive work tools, embossed with the imprints of workers' hands. In Cieza, the most distinctive and enduring symbol of identity has been esparto grass. This humble and austere plant always contributed to the humble economic development of families and would later become a key element in forging contemporary Ciezanism in the first half of the 20th century.<\/p>\n
This museum offers an introductory tour of the main processes of primitive esparto grass crafts and industry in Cieza (pulling up in the woods, drying on drying racks, cooking in rafts, chopping in mallets, raking, spinning on wheels, making rope, braiding, and scouring pads), with a display of the various utensils and tools used in the various jobs, as well as the esparto grass products manufactured and their corresponding printed and photographic documentation.<\/p>\n
The museum is the result of a grassroots initiative coordinated by the Atalaya-Ateneo Club of the Villa de Cieza, with contributions from residents who selflessly donated belongings and instruments, and the collaboration of the City Council.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
