Work was halted due to a worker's tragic accident and has resumed this week.

According to the councilor, the work, which is being carried out by the company ALBALUC and costs €53,018.04 (VAT included), is once again focused on Rosaleda Street and consists of the demolition of an old wall and fence made of bacheteras, with the subsequent removal of materials.

Once the wall has been demolished, excavation will begin for the foundation and construction of a gravel-filled concrete wall.

The project also includes the demolition of the pavement on Rosaleda Street, its replacement, and the replacement of the fencing with jambs and railings.

Francisco Saorín has stated that he is "aware that this is not the comprehensive action the neighborhood needs, as these interventions should have been carried out many years ago. Therefore, in their absence, Cabezo de la Fuensantilla is in a lamentable state, requiring urgent actions such as the one mentioned."

The councilor warned that the area requires ambitious action, which, given its high economic cost, "the City Council lacks the financial capacity to carry out. Therefore, it will require the Autonomous Community, which more than 20 years ago committed to intervening in the neighborhood, to participate in a joint effort to remodel the area, which must be reflected in the 2022 budget."

Finally, Saorín expressed his regret for the accident suffered by a worker on December 22, after falling five meters from the excavator he was working on. He reported that, fortunately, he is recovering well from his injuries.

Source: Cieza City Council.

Photo: archive.
