Municipal sources from the Cieza City Council report that the Murcia Region Government Council meeting held this Thursday, at the proposal of the Ministry of Social Policy, Families and Equality, approved direct subsidies to five municipalities in the Murcia Region, including Cieza, to ensure care for women victims of gender-based violence in the Autonomous Community through shelters run by local authorities, financing staff and operating costs.

The total amount of these projects amounts to 268,293 euros, which will be allocated to the five municipalities in the region that have shelters: Murcia, Cartagena, Lorca, Molina de Segura, and Cieza.

Shelters are family-oriented spaces designed to provide the care needed by women victims of gender-based violence, and their children, if applicable, who cannot be accommodated elsewhere due to lack of financial means or support, and who are at risk to their physical or psychological well-being. These shelters provide comprehensive treatment to women and their minor children, promoting their personal autonomy and providing them with the means for social and labor integration.
