The AEMET (Meteorological Agency) has issued a warning stating that temperatures will be very high for this time of year this weekend.
A broad anticyclone at medium and high levels is currently located inland Algeria,
will intensify over the next few days and spread westward, thus inducing a flow of
southern component that will introduce a very warm, dry air mass over the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands
and stable.
The presence of this air mass, together with the high level of sunshine associated with this time of year
of the year already a situation of great atmospheric stability, will cause a general rise and
progressive temperatures.
Temperatures will reach very high levels, higher than usual for this time of year.
In addition, this air mass of African origin will be accompanied by suspended dust, which
will affect much of the southern and eastern half of the peninsula during Thursday and Friday.
The peak day is expected to be Saturday the 20th when temperatures could reach 44ºC or 45ºC.
