Municipal sources from the Cieza City Council inform local sports clubs and associations that the deadline for justifying subsidies related to equality and sport has been extended until December 31, as published in the BORM this Tuesday, September 12.
The regional government is offering grants to promote equality in sports, specifically for women's clubs and clubs for people with disabilities. With a total budget of €600,000, eligible activities include hiring childcare staff and covering childcare expenses for children up to three years old. To further promote the inclusion of people with disabilities in sports, talks will be given and audiovisual materials will be created featuring motivational role models from renowned, high-performance athletes.
Aid to clubs
The Regional Ministry of the Presidency, Tourism, Culture, Youth, Sports, and Spokesperson has announced a grant program to promote equality in sports, targeting women's clubs and clubs with participants with disabilities. A total of €600,000 in grants will be distributed, funded by the European Union's Next Generation EU program.
Within the framework of this initiative, actions will be implemented to increase the presence and visibility of women in sports, as well as to promote the inclusion and equality of people with disabilities in sports. The proposed measures must be carried out before the end of the year, as outlined in the publication available in the Official Gazette of the Region.
Thus, three grant programs are being launched, each with a budget of €200,000. The first program is for sports clubs in the Region that will participate in 2023 with women's teams in top-level national competitions organized by sports federations. These funds can be used to finance the costs of organizing promotional and awareness-raising activities aimed at increasing the visibility of women's sports and competition at the grassroots level.
Non-professional women's teams
An equal amount will be awarded to sports clubs in the Region that participate with non-professional women's teams in state-level competitions organized by sports federations during the year 2023.
Furthermore, the grant program will also be open to sports clubs registered in the Register of Sports Entities of the Region of Murcia that participate in official sporting activities with athletes with disabilities during 2023. The grants will fund expenses related to organizing promotional and awareness-raising activities aimed at promoting equality in sport and ensuring the full and effective inclusion of all children with disabilities in grassroots sports. The budget allocated to this grant program also has a maximum of €200,000.
Within the gender equality axis, awareness-raising actions are planned through campaigns in educational centers that must be carried out by clubs that participate with female teams in federated competitions, in a minimum of ten schools, for the clubs of the highest national category, and in a minimum of five, for the clubs of state competition.
Work-life balance
Thus, sports clubs participating with women's teams will give talks, seminars, and audiovisual material in schools, preferably with motivational role models of renowned and high-performance female athletes.
The aid may also be used for hiring staff to care for the children under 14 years of age of the athletes and the female technical staff of the club, as well as for organizing activities for the children during training time and matches and for nursery expenses for children under 3 years of age.
The acquisition of sports equipment for the development of competitions, rental expenses of sports facilities, referee expenses, travel, supplies, trophies, medals and diplomas, staff organizing the activities, medical expenses, as well as others that have a direct relationship with the organization of sports activities can also be financed with these subsidies.
Inclusion of people with disabilities
Meanwhile, the inclusion of people with disabilities in sports focuses on promoting equality, particularly the full and effective inclusion of all children with disabilities, with a special emphasis on grassroots sports. To achieve these objectives, each beneficiary organization will conduct awareness-raising activities in at least ten schools, delivering talks, seminars, and audiovisual materials, preferably featuring motivational role models from renowned, high-performance athletes.
They will also develop initiatives to raise awareness among children and young people about the participation of people with disabilities in sports by conducting workshops, awareness days, and organizing competitions in inclusive and cooperative sports. To carry out these activities, they may use these grants for the purchase of sports equipment for competitions, rental of sports facilities, referee fees, travel, supplies, trophies, medals and diplomas, staff salaries for organizing activities, medical expenses, and other costs directly related to the organization of sports activities.
