Ascoy, Benís, and Carrasquilla receive aid for energy savings

A total of 20 irrigation communities in the Region of Murcia will receive 8.5 million euros in aid for improving energy efficiency and generating renewable energy in irrigation communities and general irrigation communities.

The beneficiaries are Miraflores, Pozo Román Nostrum nº3, Pozo de la Aragona, Pico de la Tienda and Santo Cristo de la Columna, in the municipality of Jumilla; Mazarrón and La Marina, in Águilas; Ascoy, Benís and Carrasquilla, and Jesús del Gran Poder, from Cieza; Azarbe del Merancho, from Santomera; the Irrigation Community of Puerto Lumbreras; Hoya del Carche-Ermita and Hoya del Mollidar-el Portichuelo, from Yecla; San Roque, from Fortuna; Pozo Lázaro, from Abarán; the one from Campo de Cartagena; Heredamiento de la Puebla and del Pantano de la Cierva, from Mula; Campotéjar, from Molina de Segura; and TTS Comarca Calasparra-Cieza, from Calasparra.

These grants correspond to the 2022 call for proposals of the Rural Development Program of the Region of Murcia.

The acting Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Antonio Luengo, highlighted that “these investments aim to reduce electricity consumption and replace traditional energy sources with more sustainable and environmentally friendly alternatives, which will contribute to protecting the environment.”

The actions to improve energy efficiency and generate renewable energy will allow the installation of a solar power of 17,312 kWp, avoiding the emission of approximately 18,900 tons of CO2.₂ per year, and generate investments totaling 21.3 million euros.

These grants correspond to the 2022 call for proposals of the Rural Development Program of the Region of Murcia. Over the last four years, the regional government has allocated a total of €11,718,800 between the 2020 and 2022 calls for proposals to support improvements in energy efficiency and renewable energy generation in irrigation communities.
