The Cieza City Council will soon receive an economic injection of €145,841 from the Spanish Government to cover the most urgent social needs in the face of the socio-economic consequences caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
This is a budget allocation from a €300,000,000 extraordinary credit approved a few days ago by the Council of Ministers of the Government of Spain. The €145,841 represents Cieza's share of the allocation for the Region of Murcia, which will total €9,284,806. As specified in the Royal Decree-Law and the credit distribution agreement, its purpose is to guarantee and strengthen Basic Social Services throughout the country.
These benefits are aimed at providing direct financial support to families in greatest need, emergency aid for the purchase of food, medicines and the payment of basic bills, as well as home support measures for the most vulnerable, isolated or disabled people.
The mayor of Cieza, Pascual Lucas, stated that this is "a significant economic boost as a shock measure to address all the consequences of the pandemic and the necessary lockdown implemented to eradicate it. It is a great help, complementing all the measures that the Cieza City Council has already put in place and will continue to implement in the coming days for residents, the self-employed, shops, and businesses. It is important to defeat the disease, and afterwards it will be important to support all those who need it so that the return to normality is as smooth as possible."
