The Cieza City Council has reported that the Management of Area IX Vega Alta del Segura, dependent on the Autonomous Community of Murcia, has clarified and denied in a statement certain information disseminated about Covid-19 tests.

“Regarding news circulating on Facebook in Cieza about COVID-19 tests being administered to people without indication or due to “pressure” from certain City Councils, this office wishes to communicate:

The current COVID-19 tests carried out in our health area are done according to the guidelines of the Ministry of Health and the Murcian Health Service to:

  1. Patients who present with symptoms of relative importance, whether or not they require admission.

  • Patients with symptoms who are especially susceptible and may worsen significantly due to their pre-existing health conditions.

  1. Any patient with mild symptoms who is institutionalized and has cohabitants around them without being able to isolate at home, for example, people who live in nursing homes, social and healthcare centers, hotels, shelters or municipal pavilions.

  • Healthcare personnel and/or any personnel working in healthcare institutions with any symptoms.

  1. Any healthcare or non-healthcare personnel, and caregivers working in social institutions, such as nursing homes and socio-health facilities, home care, etc., with symptoms, even if their symptoms are mild.

  1. Any member of the state or local security forces and agencies with symptoms, even if mild.

  1. Any other person, with or without symptoms, whom the health authority determines to be in danger for reasons of public health, in order to prevent those people from transmitting the infection to a significant number of other people or to susceptible people.”

"This is as of the current date; it is not ruled out that in the future, depending on the availability of tests, the protocols may be modified and more people may be tested."

“In this regard, regarding rumors or news that the Management of Health Area 9 of the Region of Murcia, which includes the Health Centers of Blanca, Abarán and Cieza and the Vega Lorenzo Guirao Hospital, has been “pressured” to carry out tests on certain people outside of protocol, we state that they do not correspond to reality at all.”

“During this COVID-19 crisis, the loyalty and mutual institutional support between our health centers and the three local councils in the area have been exceptional, maintaining fluid and constant communication to prevent outbreaks, to break the chains of transmission of the virus when possible, as well as to prevent and resolve the socio-health cases of people who need help from social services,” the statement concludes.
