The Cieza City Council informs that our city has been designated as the official venue for the Spanish Race Walking Championships for Marathon Absolute and Master, 10 km Sub-20 and Sub-18, and 5 km Sub-16 and the Spanish Race Walking Championships for Sub-20 and Sub-16 Autonomous Federations, which will be held on February 15, 2026.
This national sporting event will place Cieza at the center of the Spanish athletic calendar and will attract the best race walkers from all over the country.
The big news is that Cieza will be the city chosen to inaugurate the new Marathon format, as the competition officially debuts a new distance. Until now, race walking events were held over distances of 20 km and 35 km; however, Cieza will host the first-ever Marathon Race Walking event, recently established by World Athletics and the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA). This milestone makes our city a national leader in the evolution and modernization of this discipline.
The City Council wishes to express its special gratitude for the work and involvement of the Department of Sports, the Murcian Athletics Federation (FAMU) and the General Directorate of Sports of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, whose coordination and effort have made it possible for this top-level sporting event to be held in Cieza.
The City Council reaffirms its commitment to promoting sport and organizing events that project Cieza's image nationally, inviting all citizens to enjoy and participate in this historic day for sport.
