Cieza City Council, through its Tourism Department, is asking residents of Cieza to support Blanca's candidacy for Rural Tourism Capital 2022.

Rural tourism has become one of the greatest assets when traveling away from big cities. And Spain is in luck, as it boasts places of unexpected beauty and diversity: villages nestled in valleys or among mountains, among farmland or on the seashore, which sometimes make the choice a difficult task.

For another year—and this is already six—the accommodation platform Escapadarural is searching for the Rural Tourism Capital. In other words, it aims to discover, with the help of internet users, travelers' favorite rural destinations for 2022. To do so, it has selected ten locations from more than 200 candidates with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants in 17 autonomous communities that are committed to quality tourism.

Located on the banks of the Segura River, in the heart of the Ricote Valley, Blanca captivates with its natural and historical charms. This town of just over 6,500 inhabitants in the Vega Alta del Segura region preserves a delightful old town and a few gems, such as the parish church of San Juan Evangelista—a 16th-century Renaissance temple—the hermitage of San Roque, and its Moorish castle. Its name is also surprising: it was known by its ancestors as La Negra, due to the color of the rock on which it sits.

Finally, travelers will be chosen as the best, and they can vote for their favorite through the sponsoring organization's website until May 10. In previous editions, the award went to Sigüenza (2017); Aínsa (2018); Santillana del Mar (2019); Potes (2020); and Olvera (2021).
