Mayor Pascual Lucas, along with Conchi Villa and Antonio Moya, councilors for Museums and Historical Heritage, the director of the Heritage Department of the Cieza City Council, Joaquín Salmerón, and the forest agent Paco Torres, visited the "Ancestors" exhibition at the Archaeological Museum of Murcia this Monday, where the Arco cave site stands out as essential in the study of Neanderthals.

“If you want to know how our ancestors lived thousands of years ago, you only have to visit the exhibition 'ANCESTORS. Neanderthals in the Region of Murcia' at the Archaeological Museum of Murcia, where science and outreach come together in an accessible and entertaining way.”

The exhibition is curated by two specialists in the field, Dr. Ignacio Martín Lerma (Professor of Prehistory at the University of Murcia) and João Zilhão (ICREA researcher at the University of Barcelona), as well as by Luis de Miquel (conservator of the Museums and Exhibitions Service).

During the tour, visitors can enjoy unique archaeological pieces that perfectly represent the period when Neanderthals roamed our region, with illustrations created for the occasion, scale models of archaeological sites, a life-size reproduction of a torso, and even a complete original Neanderthal skeleton. Another major attraction of the exhibition is the life-size reproduction of a cave, inside which the latest findings are displayed, proving that Neanderthals were the creators of certain artistic representations.

The exhibition, in addition to exploring their way of life, answers fundamental questions such as how they lived, what they ate, and whether they were intelligent. And to resolve these mysteries, the Arco cave, located in the Los Almadenes area of Cieza, is proving crucial due to the importance of the discoveries it is yielding.

The exhibition is proving to be a resounding success in terms of visitor numbers, as it is a unique opportunity to learn about the lives and experiences of our ancestors.
