The conference "Work and Migration: Stories of Yesterday and Today" begins, organized by the Department of Sociology of the UNIVERSITY OF MURCIA, in collaboration with the Permanent Headquarters of University Extension of Cieza, the Social Center for Older Persons of Cieza and the Atalaya-Ateneo Club Association of the Town of Cieza. The talks will take place on Tuesday, June 26 and Wednesday, June 27 at the Esparto Museum and will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Each day consists of two lectures on emigration (Tuesday on Spanish emigration of the past, and Wednesday on current emigration), complemented by a documentary on Tuesday, and the presentation of a book on Wednesday.
The documentary “STORIES OF EMIGRATION IN CIEZA” which will be shown on Tuesday features Cieza residents who experienced emigration firsthand, who have been interviewed for this occasion by professors from the Department of Sociology at the University of Murcia, and who will attend the discussion.
The presentation of the book “MEMOIRS OF AN EMIGRANT” which will take place on Wednesday, will be attended by its authors: the protagonist of the story (Pepe Antón, an emigrant from Murcia to the French grape harvest in the 60s) and the writer (Juan Abenza, a friend who helped him to write his memoirs).
