The Vega Alta Adult Education Center in Cieza will celebrate its own Book Festival on Thursday, April 4th, well before the "official" date of April 23rd. The fact that it coincides with the school holidays, along with other organizational needs, makes this earlier date advisable. After all, every day can be Book Day in an educational center, as books are and will continue to be central to the transmission of knowledge.
For many years now, our school has celebrated a day of commemoration and tribute to these cherished objects that allow us to know, enjoy, feel, and live beyond the strict limits of our senses, transcending them. There is no doubt that books possess something magical, something inexplicable, a certain fascination with the promise they hold for those who approach them, the promise of making them better people. Teaching adults is, to a great extent, about introducing them to books, making them aware of the many possibilities hidden within their pages, of the great opportunity that reading represents. Each year we have tried to surpass ourselves in this endeavor to make our students friends of books. And in 2019, we persist in this effort. Students and teachers from the Adult Education Center have spent many weeks meticulously preparing everything that attendees will enjoy on this day, which will take place in the Auditorium of the IES “Diego Tortosa” at 7:00 p.m.
As a major new addition, we will have the presence of the writer Laura Morán Iglesias, author, among other novels, of Through the sand and Emporio Pastry Shopand the prizes for the competition will be awarded Letters from the TrenchesIn this performance, many participating students from the school have displayed extraordinary sensitivity in denouncing, through literature, the sadness and barbarity that always accompany wars. The Cervantine interlude will be performed. The divorce judge The event will be opened by a group of secondary school students from our center and will conclude with two spectacular musical performances, also by students from the Adult Education Center. Adult education aims to improve society by improving individuals, using training as a tool; training that cannot be solely academic, but must also be experiential: making literature and art a life experience, even for just a few hours, is the intention that gives meaning to this event.
