This Thursday afternoon, the Cieza City Council addressed the coordination of the necessary measures to coordinate the various bodies involved in ensuring public safety at the events honoring the Blessed Virgin of Buen Suceso, patron saint of the city. These events begin this Friday, September 8, with the descent of the sacred image from its hermitage in Atalaya to the Church of the Assumption, and continue until the pilgrimage to be held on September 24 in Collado de la Atalaya.

At the working meeting, all the details were discussed to ensure that all scheduled events run smoothly. This is a coordinated plan, in collaboration with the Local Police, Civil Guard, Firefighters, Environmental Agents, Red Cross, and Civil Protection, whose purpose is to ensure public peace, guarantee public order, and provide a rapid and efficient response in the event of any incident.

Among other measures adopted, there will be targeted reinforcement of citizen security measures, as well as support for traffic control and the use of public lands to ensure compliance with current regulations and the enjoyment of the public environment by all residents of Cieza.

The meeting, held in the Blue Room of City Hall, was attended by Mayor Tomás Rubio and council members Jesús Castaño, María Turpín, Paco Martínez, and Cristo Manuel Lucas, as well as local police and Civil Guard commanders, environmental agents, Red Cross volunteers, and the president of the Cieza Passion Brotherhoods Board.

Events planned for the Pilgrimage and Descent of the Virgin of Buen Suceso

The events begin this Friday, the feast day of the Virgin, at 4:30 p.m. with the transfer of the venerated image from its sanctuary on the Atalaya hill to the Iron Bridge. Buses to the sanctuary will depart at 3:30 p.m. from the Camino de Madrid near the Madre del Divino Pastor school.

At the Iron Bridge, the Virgin will be welcomed at 7:00 p.m. by local authorities, clergy, the Municipal Music Band, the Francisco Salzillo Choir and Dance Group, children dressed in regional costume, and the general public. The procession will pass through the following streets: Cuesta del Río, Don Narciso, Cadenas, Mesones, San Sebastián, Buitragos, Cánovas del Castillo, San Pedro, and the Plaza Mayor.

A mass will be held in her honor at 9:00 p.m. in the Basilica of the Assumption, led by Father José Antonio García. There will also be a floral offering to the patron saint of Cieza, according to sources from the Board of Passion Brotherhoods of Cieza.

From September 20th to 22nd, a solemn triduum will be held in honor of the Virgin Mary at 8:00 p.m. at the Assumption. On the eve of the pilgrimage, a mass will be celebrated, followed by the ascent to the shrine of the "Light of Life." A popular festival that same Saturday night at the Atalaya pass will prepare the pilgrims for Sunday's event.
