Cieza renewed its commitment to children's rights this Thursday with the establishment of the Children and Adolescents' Council, a body that allows the youngest residents of Cieza to participate in municipal decisions. The active participation of this segment of the population in social and political life is essential for the development of a more just and equitable society.

Mayor Tomás Rubio presided over the event, which was attended by the councilors for Education, Sports, Social Welfare and Urban Planning, María Turpín, Cristo Manuel Lucas, Gertru Juliá and Francisco Martínez, respectively; and other councilors of the Municipal Corporation, as well as the Local Police of Cieza, and the participation of two students from the Maestro Gómez Villa Conservatory of Music, who performed at the beginning and end of the event.

The president of UNICEF-Region of Murcia, Consuelo González, participated remotely in the formation of the council, held as part of World Children's Day, and spoke to commend Cieza's commitment to children's rights. The reading of the manifesto by the members of this body, made up of schoolchildren from the town's schools, brought the session to a close.

For his part, Rubio stated, “As mayor, it is an honor for all of us in this City Council to have your active participation. Thank you, thank you, and thank you for your role, which is fundamental to building a city where every child and teenager feels heard and valued.” Once the proposals made by the council members were read, they were unanimously approved.
