Despite the well-known difficulties of 2020, and taking into account the drop in municipal revenue, caused in some cases by measures adopted by the Municipal Government such as the suspension of the ICIO (Construction, Installations and Works Tax) or the elimination of the occupation of public roads for tables and chairs, and caused in other cases by the temporary suspension of services or activities such as indoor swimming pool, nursery school or occupation of public roads by the weekly market, the Municipal Government reports that no deficit has been incurred and payments to suppliers have been made on time, complying with the regulations.
Obviously, given the circumstances, it has not been possible to close the year with a significant surplus, as has been the norm in previous years, which would facilitate increased investment. However, the budget has been balanced, and all applicable regulations have been met. It is worth noting that in the last six years, the Comptroller's Office has not raised a single objection to the Municipal Government's management, which attests to the sound practice in handling payment files. It should also be pointed out that this administration has implemented a more rigorous auditing model with the aim of continued improvement, particularly in the management of contracts and European funds, where public controls are more stringent. Likewise, the Cieza City Council continues to manage European funds appropriately and without objections from higher levels of government.
Despite the PP's attempts, given their lack of an alternative, to sow doubt about the government's management, the numbers are irrefutable. The reality is exemplary management where, despite unfavorable circumstances, services are maintained, investment is increased, European funds are managed, suppliers are paid on time, and taxes are even reduced. The proof that this management is beyond question is that, despite the PP's efforts to sow doubt, they ultimately tend to support, or at least not oppose, the vast majority of the proposals this government brings before the plenary session.
