For the third consecutive year, the Departments of Environment and Agriculture are once again installing containers to prevent burning within their urban areas of responsibility.

In response, they have been installed in the La Isla area, Arenal Park, the plot in front of the Wire Bridge, the Menjú area, the esplanade of the Teodoro Mill Museum, and the wastewater treatment plant area.

"Pruning remains must be deposited in containers specifically designated for this purpose and/or shredded." It is important to remember that burning them is prohibited and that burning is only permitted for phytosanitary reasons that cannot be addressed with other types of treatment. Proper justification must be provided that there are no other means of preventing the spread of pests. This must be certified by an agricultural technician, notified to the Plant Quality Service of the General Directorate of Agriculture of the Autonomous Community. In addition, the following information must be provided: full name, ID number, contact telephone number, municipality, polygon and cadastral parcel, date(s) and time of the burning.

Likewise, if the property is located less than 400 m from forest land, the fire must also be reported to prevención.incendiosforestales@carm.es, but in this case, a favorable report from the Forestry Coordination Center is required before burning can proceed.

"Fortunately, in our municipality, with the support of our technologically advanced agriculture, almost all pruning waste is shredded, and this year we have installed a biomass plant. However, in the urban (peri-urban) area, we have installed these containers exclusively for pruning waste, in the lower garden area, from the Dam to the Argaz. Remember that in this area we have five schools, a health center, and the hospital," said Antonio Moya, the responsible councilor.

They remind us that "the powers fall under the jurisdiction of the Autonomous Community, so it is the Seprona (National Police Service) that must monitor and sanction the entire municipal area in the event of non-compliance with these regulations. The Local Police, for their part, will ensure that burning does not occur in urban (peri-urban) areas and that these containers are used correctly." Furthermore, it is advisable not to burn early in the morning and wait until daylight, and to refrain from burning on cloudy, overcast days.
