The mayor of Cieza, Pascual Lucas, accompanied by the councilors for Citizen Participation and Health, Conchi Villa and Francisco Saorín, respectively, visited the new facilities this Thursday, which only have a few details left to be completed.
Construction was completed just a few days ago, and the work has already been accepted by the City Council.
The work involved improvements to the animal shelter located in the Ascoy industrial park. The current animal shelter is situated on a 2,510 m² plot, accessible via the extension of Chicharra Street.
Work has been carried out to consolidate, adapt, improve, and expand the existing infrastructure. This has included the expansion of the kennels, for which the row in module 1 has been doubled, a small building to serve as an animal washing area, and a cattery.
Additionally, work has been carried out on the sanitation area, as the previous system was clogged with solids and had leaks. Regarding the kennels, a comprehensive project was undertaken, beginning with the demolition of the previous structure. Furthermore, the pavement has been resurfaced, the access doors to the treatment room and washroom have been replaced, and the outdoor animal bathing area has been repaired.
The project was drafted by a municipal technician and set a tender price of 101,444.67 euros and an execution period of six months, with a guarantee period of one year counted from the date of the provisional acceptance certificate.
Lucas noted that “it is a source of joy to complete facilities that have been long demanded by the community. This need has been addressed democratically through participatory budgeting. We are in the final phase; only a few details remain. The center has all the necessary infrastructure for animal care.”
The councilor congratulated Villa and Saorín on the completion of this project.
For her part, the Councillor for Citizen Participation was pleased that the reality of the new zoological centre “shows that the democratic procedure of participatory budgets is a living tool that highlights the value of the City Council's management in terms of its relationship and attention to the residents.
Finally, Saorín noted that, with this project, "in addition to fulfilling the citizens' vote through the 2019 Participatory Budget, we are addressing a long-standing demand from the animal rights community. The facility has 31 kennels, each capable of housing two animals. The dog pound will begin operating next week through the company contracted by the City Council for this purpose."
A continuous improvement project that began during the last legislature through the Department of Citizen Participation, and which currently continues to have the support of the citizens through participatory budgets, which have again provided this improvement project with a new economic allocation to continue expanding facilities and services in a future second phase of action.
