The awards ceremony took place this Wednesday at a ceremony held at the Department of the Environment of the Autonomous Community of Murcia, where students and teachers from the San José Obrero School attended, accompanied by the Councilor for Education, María Turpín.

Ecovidrio, the non-profit organization responsible for recycling glass packaging waste in Spain, and the Region of Murcia have managed to recover 70,735 kg of glass packaging thanks to the "Little Recyclers" campaign, which aimed to raise awareness among schoolchildren about the importance of recycling glass packaging. This campaign was supported by the Department of Education of the Yecla City Council.

For the campaign, which ran from October 1 to November 30, a competition was launched in which 51 schools competed against each other, divided into categories based on the number of students enrolled in primary school, with the goal of becoming the center that recycled the most glass containers.

Green containers in schools

To help achieve this goal, a green bin was decorated near each school with the campaign image and personalized with the school's name. The school that recycled the most kilograms of glass containers (per primary school student), promoted the campaign the most, and promoted environmental initiatives among the school community would win the competition, with a prize of €1,000 in each category.

During the campaign, the "Little Volunteers" initiative was also launched. The top ten initiatives that promoted the recycling of glass packaging waste and promoted it the most received a check for €100 to purchase school or sports equipment.

Among the winning schools in this initiative was Colegio San José Ganador, which received an award in one of the campaign's three categories. A representative of students and teachers from the Cieza school attended the awards ceremony alongside the Councilor for Education, María Turpín.
