During the 2023-2024 school year, Colegio San José Obrero has been working on a project focused on the study, transformation, and sustainability of the environment. This project sought to engage students in research on the municipality's natural environment, including water, terrain, orchards, green spaces, groves, and unique trees.
Through this initiative, teachers and students have created a series of documentaries that they present, relating them to the Sustainable Development Goals. These documentaries follow on from the ones produced last year on the history of Cieza, which are available for viewing on both the school's website and its YouTube channel.
New course with more activities
Each grade level has sponsored a garden area, taking charge of its care and maintenance, decorating it with drawings and names of their own choosing, promoting responsibility for green spaces. In addition, all grade levels participate in the school garden and the aromatic plant garden, carrying out planting, care, and harvesting activities.
This is in addition to the activities that San José Obrero School has carried out jointly with the Department of the Environment. These actions have positively contributed to students' ecological awareness and have generated attitudes toward the conservation and maintenance of natural spaces. Examples of these actions include sponsoring a river beach near the Alambre Bridge and improving the school's soils. These activities highlight the importance of soil richness in green areas and biodiversity, among others.
Docucieza is presented
Last Thursday, June 13th, the students and teachers involved in this project presented the DOCUCIEZAs to the Councilor for the Environment, Francisco Martínez. The councilor expressed his gratitude for these types of educational initiatives, emphasizing that they not only enrich young people's knowledge and ecological awareness but also promote a more sustainable and responsible future for the community. Francisco Martínez took the opportunity to emphasize that caring for the environment begins at home and on our streets, with every small action, such as recycling a container at home or throwing a piece of paper in the trash instead of littering it.
"The role of the educational community is crucial in promoting environmental education and sustainability. Projects like this demonstrate a firm commitment to the comprehensive education of students, preparing them to address the ecological challenges of the future. These initiatives contribute positively to the local environment and can inspire others to follow their example in terms of environmental responsibility," municipal sources noted.
