This is the purpose of Police Day, whose municipal officers act with the will to better serve Cieza. There is no doubt that holding an event of this kind is a good idea in a society increasingly less accustomed to valuing and applauding the efforts of others. Once again this year, the City Council will include institutions, associations, and individuals who have distinguished themselves through exceptional actions and interventions, but without receiving the recognition they deserve.
The Mayor of Cieza, Pascual Lucas, and the Chief Inspector of the Local Police, María José Hernández, have presented the main events planned for Police Day, which will be celebrated on December 7 and 8. For the past five years, this institutional event, which takes place in the Manuela Burló Moreno Hall of the Capitol Theater at 1:00 p.m., seeks to recognize the work of professional careers and exceptional actions and interventions in risky situations, beyond what is required in the normal performance of their duties. The same is done with volunteers and residents who distinguish themselves in a special way for their contribution to security, protection, and citizen assistance in the municipality.
In the words of the mayor, "This day is already a day of gratitude and recognition for police officers, volunteers, and individuals whose actions are worthy of these distinctions. Therefore, this year we will show our gratitude and admiration to those who participated in three extraordinary events: the search for a missing elderly man last April, the response to the fires that occurred this summer, and the rescue and relief efforts during the severe cold snap in September." The relief and assistance provided to the population by professionals, and even individuals and associations who spontaneously offered their solidarity, still lingers fresh in our memories.
Both authorities agreed to encourage residents to participate in the activity specifically designed for December 7th in Plaza de España, an exhibition of the vehicles used by the Local Police in their daily work. This exhibition will also showcase the various vehicles used by other police and emergency services belonging to the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard, Firefighters, Red Cross, and Civil Protection. A children's traffic park will also be set up to provide an educational resource to support basic road safety education. The circuit will feature elements typical of a public road and their corresponding signage, where children can practice riding bicycles and tricycles.
Half an hour before the official ceremony on December 8, the Local Police, along with members of the local Civil Protection and Spanish Red Cross groups, will line up outside the police station and receive a greeting from the mayor. After inspecting the officers and listening to the Cieza Local Police Anthem performed by the Municipal Music Band, the mayor and the other authorities will head to the Capitol Theater. The planned activities, which begin this Tuesday with a table tennis tournament at the Juan José Angosto Pavilion and continue until Thursday with a guided tour of the old town, include a shooting competition and a hiking trail.
