The Vega Lorenzo Guirao Hospital in Cieza has consolidated its service portfolio with the addition of a rheumatologist to its staff, part of the Internal Medicine Department.
This professional will handle approximately 1,000 consultations annually, of which approximately 300 will be initial consultations, 500 will be follow-ups, and 200 will be referrals from other hospital specialists.
Initially, patients were referred to the Morales Meseguer Hospital in Murcia, except for those treated at the Cieza Hospital by Internal Medicine specialists. During a transition period, a physician from Morales Meseguer traveled to the Hospital de la Vega a few days a week to treat patients there. This specialist has now recently joined the staff.
The rheumatologist also prescribes treatments for chronic rheumatic conditions, which are treated with specific, high-value medications in the Pharmacy Department and the Day Hospital.
