Juan de Dios Cánovas will be in charge of the Cieza hospital

The Official Gazette of the Region of Murcia today published the appointments of the new managers for Health Areas I (West Murcia), III (Lorca), and IX (Vega Alta del Segura), whose reference hospitals are, respectively, La Arrixaca, Rafael Méndez, and the Cieza Hospital. These appointments by the Murcian Health Service (SMS) are part of the Ministry of Health's efforts to improve the regional healthcare system during this new legislative term.

Amancio Marín has been appointed to the position of manager of area I (Arrixaca), Fulgencio Pelegrín has been appointed to area III (Rafael Méndez hospital), and Juan de Dios Cánovas has been appointed to area IX (Cieza).

The new manager of the Arrixaca Hospital, Amancio Marín, holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Murcia and is a specialist in Family and Community Medicine. He has a Master's degree in Emergency Medicine, Quality Management of Health Services, and Management of Social and Healthcare Services. A permanent employee of the Murcian Health Service (SMS), he has dedicated 25 years of his professional career to healthcare management, both in the public sector, specifically in Health Area VII (East Murcia), and in the private sector at hospitals belonging to the Quirónsalud and Riberasalud groups, where he most recently served as manager of the Virgen de la Caridad Hospital in Cartagena and the Virgen de la Caridad Hospital in Caravaca.

Murcia, Lorca, and Cieza

Fulgencio Pelegrín holds a doctorate in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Murcia and is a specialist in Otolaryngology. From November 2022 until the present, he has served as Medical Director of Area III. He has practiced medicine in the Pediatric Surgery Department of the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital, the Jiménez Díaz Foundation Hospital in Madrid, the Santa Rosa de Lima Outpatient Clinic, and the San Diego and Lorca Sur Health Centers. He has also been a Primary Health Care tutor at the Family and Community Medicine Teaching Unit in Lorca and Head of the Emergency Department at the Rafael Méndez Hospital in Lorca.

Juan de Dios Cánovas holds a degree in Political Science and Public Administration and a diploma in Public Management and Administration from the Faculty of Law at the University of Murcia. He holds three permanent positions within the Murcia Health Service (SMS): in the Non-Medical Specialist category, Senior Administrators Corps, assigned to the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital; in the Administrative Corps, assigned to the Northwest Regional Hospital; and in the Administrative Assistant Corps, assigned to the Morales Meseguer Hospital in Murcia.

Call for applications

The Official Gazette of the Region of Murcia (BORM) published on October 28 the calls for applications to fill the positions of managing directors of health areas I, III and IX, with a period of 10 working days for the presentation of applications.

Once the candidates were presented, the SMS chose the managers through a free appointment procedure.
