Municipal sources indicate that the sound economic management carried out in recent years, with the elimination of debt, together with the new regulations of the Spanish Government that authorize the use of treasury surpluses, has made it possible to carry out a modification of such an important magnitude.
The mayor of Cieza, Pascual Lucas, appeared alongside the finance councilor, Antonio Ignacio Martínez-Real, to announce and explain the budget amendment. Lucas emphasized that €1 million will be allocated to aid the sectors most affected by the pandemic, €325,000 to the hospitality industry, €175,000 for campaigns to incentivize retail and hospitality businesses, €20,000 to incentivize tourism companies, in addition to significant financial support for vulnerable individuals and a social employment program. Regarding investments, the start of the pedestrianization of the Paseo was announced with an allocation of €652,000, as well as another €520,000 for improvements to public roads, €100,000 for street lighting in Ascoy, €150,000 for rural roads, and €72,000 for the removal of architectural barriers. The project for surveillance cameras in the Ascoy industrial park is also continuing, for which a budget of 100,000 euros has been allocated.
For his part, the Finance Councillor, Antonio Ignacio Martínez-Real, emphasized the importance of being able to allocate resources to the sectors most affected by the crisis, as well as to people facing hardship, all while maintaining the pace of investment, improving the city, and addressing needs. He highlighted the allocation for initiating the new General Plan, "in order to resolve land issues in our city and, above all, give a boost to industrial activity." He also mentioned a €500,000 allocation that will be used exclusively for drafting projects to apply for new European funding opportunities.
