The Brotherhood of the Most Holy Christ of Forgiveness and the Most Holy Virgin of Beautiful Love has announced the appointment of Ginés Martínez Morcillo as the herald of Lent 2025.
Ginés Martínez has extensive experience and training as a conductor and music teacher. He began his musical studies at the Cieza Municipal Music School at the age of 12, specializing in trumpet with Francisco García Alcázar. He continued his intermediate and advanced studies at the Manuel Masotti Littel Conservatory of Music in Murcia, under the tutelage of Vicente Rodrigo and Ernest Aparissi, obtaining the highest marks. He also holds a Diploma in Primary Education Teaching from the Camilo José Cela University in Madrid. He has attended master classes with top national and international trumpet players.
Youth Orchestra of the Region of Murcia
He has been a member of the Youth Orchestra of the Region of Murcia for several seasons, as well as of various chamber groups. He has worked as a trumpet teacher at various regional music schools. He currently teaches music classes in primary and secondary education at the Jesucristo Aparecido School in Moratalla. He began his membership in the Cieza Municipal Band as a trumpet player at the age of thirteen. In 1998, he became its musical director, continuing to this day.
A director of various bands, he has trained as a band and orchestra conductor, combining his work as a conductor of the Maestro Gómez Villa Conservatory Band in Cieza. He has successfully completed his studies in orchestral and band conducting under the tutelage of internationally renowned professors. In 2023, he won first prize with the Municipal Band in the 10th Regional Band Competition of the City of Santomera and the award for best conductor.
A very active member of Cieza's musical events, including the Cieza Municipal Band, such as Holy Week, which he is passionate about. The band has had a special connection with the Brotherhood of Forgiveness for several years, marching in several processions with the band during Holy Week.
His outstanding work directing the band is highlighted in events such as the Lent and Holy Week Proclamation concerts, the lowering and raising of the Holy Christ, the Arrest ceremony, the transfer of the Christ of Forgiveness, the Fair concert, among others.
On the first Sunday of Lent, March 9, at 12 noon, Ginés Martínez Morcillo will preach Lent from the main altar of the parish of San Joaquín, taking over from Emiliano Fernández Villalba.
