Juan del Baño Penalva (Cieza, 1970) was unanimously elected as the new president of the Brotherhood of the Prayer of the Garden and Holy Sepulchre of Cieza, Los Dormis, during the ordinary general assembly held by the brotherhood this past Friday.
He replaces Antonio Gómez Ruiz, president during the last term and now serving as vice president.
Del Baño Penalva, married to Candelaria Salmerón and father of two sons, Juan and Pablo, all brothers from Los Dormis, works as a caretaker at the Lorenzo Guirao Regional Hospital. He will remain at the helm of the brotherhood for the next three years.
The new president belongs to a family in which the Brotherhood of the Prayer of the Garden and the Holy Sepulchre has always been present; not in vain has he shared and will continue to share the board of directors with his brother Pedro, a member of Caridad, both sons of one of the brotherhood's historic figures, Honorary Brother Francisco del Baño, who also served as a director for years.
Juan del Baño Penalva has a long career in the governing bodies of Los Dormis. He joined the board in 1986, at the age of 16, giving him 33 years as a director. He began as manager of the robes and staff room, later becoming treasurer and then vice president during the terms of Diego Ortega "Peperre," José Penalva, and Antonio Gómez.
