The Padre Salmerón Municipal Library in Cieza recently undertook improvements to its facilities, including remodeling the reading room, purging the newspaper library, and removing obsolete computer equipment, among other tasks. To achieve this, and due to the need for the assistance of all library staff, this service was forced to close its doors to the public.

Modifying the layout of our municipal library's reading room has been the most time-consuming task for everyone, due to the need to relocate the shelves housing the library's collections. This change in layout allows for better access to the collection without disturbing the peace of mind of other users of the reading room, which bears the name of the Cieza poet María Pilar López.

On the other hand, the municipal library staff has purged the newspaper archive, whose holdings were accumulating in storage and taking up space. A library's collection can include much more than books. It's worth remembering that municipal libraries are not required to retain periodicals, except for local publications.

For the municipal department headed by Education Councilor María Turpín, this project was carried out in collaboration with the Cieza City Council's Services and IT staff. Interior accessibility requires clarity in both the layout of spaces and interior orientation through appropriate signs and posters.

The Cieza Municipal Library will soon begin technical conservation work on the collections held in the repository, paying special attention to book donations made by individuals.
