The Department of the Environment reported in a press release that a sign placed on one of the beaches restored by AFEMCE as part of the environmental volunteer program has disappeared.
The council, in its statement, condemns these practices and encourages everyone to “be more aware of what belongs to no one but belongs to all citizens.” The program coordinators ask any river users who find the missing flower-shaped sign indicating the beach where it was located at Teodoro's Mill, in the Zarzas area, to keep it and return it to the Department of the Environment, AFEMCE, or one of the participating associations, groups, or schools.
Municipal sources also remind us that, starting in September, any association or group wishing to join the project can do so by contacting the Department of the Environment or by contacting one of the members participating in the program: AFEMCE, Colegio Ascopas/El Buen Pastor, OJE, IES los Albares, Colegio Gerónimo Belda, Colegio José Marín, Banda Municipal or Mesnada Caballeros Fronteros.
The council, together with other organizations, is launching “an engaging project that raises awareness and fosters a collective culture of caring for our environment and appreciating its value to our city and visitors. Consequently, acts of vandalism will not be able to break the spirit of this initiative. Being a Cieza resident means working together for the benefit of Cieza,” the council stated.
“That you have to be ‘tender’ when it comes to environmental volunteering is something all the members of associations and groups who have joined this altruistic project to improve the municipality's natural environment agree on. What is also clear—something the project participants concur on—is that volunteering is here to stay and that every possible obstacle will only motivate us to join forces and become even better and more creative,” concludes Councilor Antonio Moya.
