The accused recorded a video in which he claimed that a coronavirus infection had occurred in a supermarket in the town.

The video was spread through social media and instant messaging and generated social alarm among the neighbors.

The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has identified, located and reported a resident of Cieza under Organic Law 4/2015, of March 30, on the protection of citizen security, for public disorder.

The alleged offender recorded a video in which he claimed that a COVID-19 infection had occurred in a local supermarket.

This video was widely disseminated through social networks and instant messaging, creating confusion and social alarm among the population of Cieza who feared they had been infected.

After analyzing the video and thanks to citizen collaboration, the Civil Guard has located its author, a resident of the municipality who has been reported under Organic Law 4/2015, of March 30, on the protection of citizen security, for public disorder.

According to the investigation, this information was false.

The Civil Guard reminds the public that spreading hoaxes that negatively impact public safety can result in an administrative penalty; furthermore, if this false information generates serious public disorder, it could lead to criminal liability.
