The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has carried out an investigation in Cieza to clarify a case of animal abuse, which has culminated in the identification, location and investigation of two residents of the municipality who have been charged as alleged perpetrators of a crime against animals.

Specialists from the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) of the Civil Guard found up to seven roosters of the Spanish fighting breed (gallus gallus) in a property in the municipality of Cieza, which had their combs removed and their owners could not prove that this mutilation had been carried out by a qualified professional and with the established health measures.

The investigation began a few weeks ago, when SEPRONA specialists were alerted to the existence of several fighting roosters in dubious conditions in a property in the municipality of Cieza.

The Civil Guard officers went to the indicated location and carried out a thorough inspection of the animals and the area where they were kept. The roosters had their combs cut off, but the two owners could not prove that these mutilations had been performed by a technician specializing in this type of procedure, nor could they guarantee that it had been carried out with the minimum health and hygiene measures for the animals.

In light of these events, the Civil Guard has investigated the two owners of the mutilated roosters and has initiated proceedings against them as alleged perpetrators of a crime against animals, for animal abuse.
