Municipal sources from the Cieza City Council report that the Department of Family Affairs of the Autonomous Community of Murcia has announced that the new Law on Single-Parent Families, which came into force this Friday, September 8, will allow more than 35,000 families in the Region to apply for the title that recognizes the existence of a single person as the head of the family unit and that certifies their status for the progressive granting of benefits, tax advantages and bonuses comparable to those obtained by large families in the region.
The official document will be valid throughout the Region of Murcia and can be requested online through the portal sede.carm.es for faster processing. The maximum processing time will be three months from the date of application, and a certificate will be issued for the entire family, also in digital format, so it can be accessed on any electronic device.
As stated in the regulation (Official Gazette of the Region of Murcia), among the requirements for the recognition of single-parent families, it is important to note that all members of the family unit must be registered in the Region of Murcia at least six months prior to the date of submission of the application.
Age to be able to apply
Likewise, children, wards, or foster children must live with and be financially dependent on a single parent or foster parent, up to an age limit of 21. This age limit can be extended to 26 if they are enrolled in university studies, formal education, or training aimed at obtaining employment. There is no age limit for children with disabilities, permanent total incapacity, or severe incapacity. The certificate, issued by the Ministry of Social Policy, Families, and Equality, is compatible with the large family certificate and will be considered special, among other cases, when the parent has three or more dependent children, or when they have two children and at least one of them has a disability, permanent total incapacity, or severe incapacity.
This also applies to single-parent families with one child whose per capita income does not exceed 100% of the IPREM (Public Indicator of Income for Multiple Purposes). Families interested in applying for this qualification and requiring prior information can visit the Citizen Service Centers (SAC) located throughout the Region, where specialized staff will advise them and answer their questions about the application process. They can also make inquiries by calling 968 362 000 or 012.
