The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure reports that the ongoing works, awarded for a total of €69,150, will restore the roadway's functionality at both locations and make them more habitable for residents.
Paco Saorín, the Councilor for Public Works, explained that "these actions, which were approved by residents through a vote in the participatory process implemented in the 2017 Public Works and Services Plan, will consist of repairing sidewalks and roads, significantly improving their condition and bringing them into compliance with accessibility regulations, including replacing street signs in the area."
Likewise, "speed bumps will be installed on this street, which hasn't seen any improvements in over 20 years. We hope to address the demands of local residents, who have been asking for some kind of intervention to mitigate the excessive speeds often committed by vehicles traveling in the area."
Saorín pointed out that "this project is another step included in the municipal government's plan to improve the Old Town. It's in addition to the work carried out in the county councils' employment reports, the renovation of Calvario Street, and the waste bin replacement and expansion program implemented by the Department of Services."
"All of these actions have been carried out by hiring companies from Cieza, which is having a positive impact on employment in Cieza."
Finally, the councilor wanted to clarify that "it is fair to recognize that with these works, we also comply with the plenary agreement in which we accepted the CCCiezanos proposal to undertake improvements in this area of the city, an agreement that we comply with, not always with the haste that this government would like, nor with the demanding tone that certain sectors of the opposition suggest, but when our planning work allows us to have the necessary resources to be able to carry it out."
