The Councillor for Education, María Ramos; the Director of the IES Diego Tortosa, José Carrasco, and the teachers from this center who authored the initiative, María Parra, Language teacher, and Pascual Santos, Technology teacher and coordinator of the 'Industrial and Commercial Archaeology Route of Cieza' project, presented this Friday in the Padre Salmerón Library 'Reading in QR' a program directed by the teachers and students of the aforementioned Secondary Institute to encode all the work that is carried out in the educational center.

They explained that the project, presented at the 5th Regional Children's and Youth Book Fair, was already approved by the Teachers and Resources Center (CPR) and began in December without an expiration date, as the intention is for it to remain in operation for years, since, in principle, the objectives set were very modest and have been expanded over time.

This idea was born with the intention of promoting reading among young people and awakening their curiosity and investigative side, allowing them to immerse themselves in a fascinating world and discover for themselves facts about their own town, its businesses, factories, industry, finding out or following any vestige, however small it may be; in short, delving deeper to learn more about their heritage.

Expanding on the 'Cieza Industrial and Commercial Archaeology Route' project, the factories, shops, etc., referred to in it, are processed by the students, who geolocate them using Google Earth, working with new technologies, thus promoting not only linguistic but also digital development.

In this way, in the aforementioned process, they experience something different, becoming protagonists of the reading they work on, and also becoming generators of future information, useful for their classmates or for the general public.

The creators of the idea are convinced that they have achieved an innovative approach by incorporating a QR code that encodes the work being done. This allows students to use their mobile phones to see work done by classmates or even by themselves.

"An interaction is achieved not only between students and teachers, but also with people who collaborate in this process such as Joaquín Gómez Carrillo, Antonio Ballesteros, family members, the Fray Pasqual Salmerón Center for Historical Studies, the Municipal Library, Manuela Caballero, director of the magazine 'Andelma', and writers, all of them contributing information and explaining their research experiences to the students, thus achieving a dynamic, integrative and participatory journey, in addition to transmitting to the students the love and respect for their heritage," they say.

The director of Diego Tortosa and the teachers of the institute concluded by indicating that it is proving to be "a very rewarding experience for everyone" and thanked the City Council and the Municipal Library for including their presentation in the Book Fair program.
