In recent weeks, the Cieza City Council has initiated more than 100 cases for violations of the Street Cleaning Ordinance, most of them for improperly dumping garbage or waste in public streets, or for dumping it in the bin outside of established hours. It should be noted that the large number of cameras already in place in the town is allowing for the rapid identification of offenders, combined with the special diligence of police officers, who, in some cases, have also been able to identify offenders dumping belongings or debris from construction work carried out on their homes.
“A clear objective for the entire city must be to keep its streets in good condition, and for that, everyone's cooperation is necessary. There is no doubt that security cameras are proving to be a good tool when it comes to encouraging compliance with ordinances and civic regulations. Most of the cases we refer to are usually closed with a fine ranging from 100 to 180 euros, depending on the specific case, and this can be reduced if the facts are promptly recognized. We must remember that every time garbage is thrown in the street, it represents an additional cost to the municipal coffers that all of us in Cieza face, both those who litter improperly and those who comply with the ordinances. Therefore, it is only fair to impose these financial penalties on those who do not comply with the regulations, so that they are the ones who share more of the costs that all of us unfairly bear.”
Finally, the municipal government reiterates its call for public cooperation, appealing to civic spirit, to avoid the need to open further disciplinary proceedings. What's truly important is that, together, we can present a better image of our city and all its beautiful places and landscapes," municipal sources conclude.
