The Department of the Environment of the Cieza City Council has issued a statement congratulating the groups, associations, and professionals who contributed to the approval of the bill to rid the Region of Murcia of fracking.

The Department of the Environment describes the recent agreement reached in the Assembly to declare the Region of Murcia a fracking-free territory as "excellent news" for the municipality of Cieza and the entire region.

The statement indicates that, after some points proposed by Podemos were declared “unconstitutional,” the PSOE presented the text of its bill, which was drafted under the leadership of the mayors of the affected municipalities. “Fortunately, the Socialist and Podemos parliamentary groups reached an agreement to present the joint bill to the Regional Assembly to free the Region from fracking.”

The Councillor for the Environment, Antonio Moya, expressed his gratitude for the efforts of the technician from the Cieza Town Hall's Environment Department and the collaboration of all the professionals and associations that participated in drafting the document, especially the agricultural organizations and irrigation communities, environmental groups, and the Segura River Basin Free of Fracking Platform. The document is based on the law passed by the Castile-La Mancha Regional Government and recently upheld by the Constitutional Court.

“This agreement represents a definitive step to stop any attempt at exploitation in the region using this aggressive prospecting technique and rewards the effort made by all the municipalities, which have approved the same text, as was unanimously the case of the Plenary of our municipality,” the Environment Department emphasizes.
