Next Wednesday, May 20th, the weekly market that was previously held in Cieza and was suspended due to the declaration of the state of emergency will resume operations under strict security controls, allowing Cieza residents to shop with the utmost confidence.
This market is reopening with food and essential product stalls, as directed by the relevant authorities, and they must comply with all regulations issued by the health authorities.
Once almost all of the paving and sidewalk work underway in the San José Obrero neighborhood is complete, the market will return to its usual location. The market will be held in a closed, one-way loop, with continuous capacity monitoring. Public access hours will be from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and both entry and exit can be made at the intersection of La Paz and Cartagena streets. Temperature checks will be in place at the access point, as well as a hand hygiene and capacity control station. Masks must be worn and the marked safety distances must be observed at all times. Contact with other customers, approaching the stall, or touching the products on display will not be permitted. Card payments are also recommended, whenever possible.
In the words of the responsible councilor, María Jesús López, "a significant effort has been made to ensure that street vendors can also resume their activities to a certain extent and our citizens can enjoy the market, but we will be very strict in ensuring compliance with the established rules for both vendors and consumers, and at the slightest doubt, we will not hesitate to back down if these rules are not met." In this regard, a special unit of the Civil Guard, local police, civil protection, and municipal officials will be established to monitor at all times that the activity is running smoothly.
We find ourselves in a delicate situation, in Phase I of the de-escalation process, and we cannot relax our compliance with the regulations set by the health authorities. We appeal to everyone's responsibility and good work, in all aspects of daily life, to help us overcome this terrible pandemic as quickly as possible.
