Under the title "The Unfinished Business: Being LGBTQ+ in the Classroom," a roundtable discussion is being held for the first time in Cieza, focusing on everything that remains to be done in our education system to overcome a major unfinished business: transforming classrooms into a safe place for LGBTQ+ people, whether students, families, or teachers.

The event will be based on a diverse conversation about inclusion and respect in education. Critical issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community will be explored, with experiences, knowledge, and perspectives shared. One of the highlights will be mental health, addressing the relationship between inclusive education and healthy psychological development and the well-being of all involved.

We will also discuss how diversity education in the classroom not only benefits LGBTQ+ individuals but also enriches society as a whole, as it is an asset that breaks down barriers, builds bridges, and makes us more empathetic, tolerant, and respectful. We will also analyze the keys to becoming strong and effective allies in promoting inclusion and respect, offering strategies and proposals to make this a reality.

Participants include María Guirao Carrillo, Psychologist and Sexologist, Nuria Montiel Guardiola, Visible LGTBIQ+ Teacher, Louise Valero López, Visible Trans Teacher, Juan Antonio López Albert, Member of the LGTBIQ+ Collective La Traca.

Moderated by Miguel Villalba Gómez, Civil Servant in the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Employment.

The event will take place in the Manuela Burló Room of the Capitol Theater this Thursday, October 26, at 8:00 p.m.
