Municipal sources indicate that the Regional Minister of Education and Vocational Training has informed the Governing Council of the renovation works that will be carried out this summer at 11 educational centers to open new school cafeterias, with an investment of more than 300,000 euros.
The new cafeterias will serve more than 400 students and will be added to the 281 public schools with cafeterias. The 2024-2025 school year will begin with a total of 292 cafeterias, with capacity for 18,500 students. These 11 new cafeterias are in addition to the 12 that were launched last school year.

The 11 centers that will have a dining room are: the Juan Carlos I Primary School (La Union), San Pedro Primary School (Fuente Alamo), Campoazahar Primary School (Santomera), San Bartolome Primary School (Cieza), Vista Alegre Primary School and Valentín Buendía Primary School (Las Torres de Cotillas), Mariano Suarez Primary School (Jumilla), San Cristobal Primary School (Aledo), Juan Ayala Primary School and Diego Martinez Rico Primary School (Ceutí) and Martinez Cachas Primary School (Barqueros-Murcia).
The adaptation works will be carried out jointly with the city councils of the towns where the schools are located. They primarily consist of adapting the dining room and food preparation areas, adapting restrooms for people with reduced mobility, improving accessibility, and providing kitchen equipment, kitchenware, and furniture.
In addition, the Regional Ministry will invest 2,200 euros to provide more equipment to the dining hall at the Nuestra Señora de la Fuensanta Primary School (Archena), which began operating last year.
These projects are in addition to the 92 projects in educational centers throughout the region that will be carried out this summer, with an investment of more than 8.2 million euros. Specifically, 5 million euros will be allocated to replace roofs and install photovoltaic solar panels for self-consumption in 24 public schools, 1.8 million euros will be allocated to adapting classrooms for students aged 2 to 3 in 39 schools, more than one million euros will be allocated to maintenance and repairs in 25 schools, and 420,000 euros will be allocated to increase the power and modify the electrical installation in four preschool and primary schools.
