Pascual Lucas, Mayor of Cieza; Antonio Moya, Councilor for Economic Development; and Francisco Saorín, Councilor for Public Works, met with the directors of the public company, Railway Infrastructure Administrator (ADIF). During the meeting, various demands were put forward that would help improve the municipality's economic development.
Some of the demands included the revitalization and enhancement of the "El Chicharra" greenway. To this end, the City Council will join the Region of Murcia greenway consortium. "There are some municipally owned lands, but other lands owned by ADIF are needed. If the public company were to cede the land, an interesting tourism project could be launched that would diversify the offerings to Jumilla," commented City Council sources.
On the other hand, elaborating on the economic development of Cieza, interest was expressed in the progress of the Camarillas bypass. "The improved freight train capacity, which is now longer, will increase Cieza's economic potential. Investing in a northern corridor, which would connect Cieza and Murcia with Madrid and Castilla-La Mancha, could improve the conditions for the establishment of new companies."
Finally, the mayor presented one of the most urgent projects for the local government. The level of concern over the condition of the Asensao Bridge has led the Cieza government to seek alternatives to improve the infrastructure on the roads connecting with Ascoy and the Los Prados industrial estate. The mayor outlined two possible options: first, creating the necessary space to allow for one lane in each direction, and second, widening the existing lane so that its narrowness does not cause traffic difficulties.
"Cieza has spent too long waiting for solutions to its problems to come from outside, with passivity and resignation. This government's initiative is making it possible to realize possible solutions to these problems, thereby holding the competent institutions accountable for their resolution," concludes the mayor of Cieza.
