Convened by the Departments of Environment and Services, municipal technicians and representatives from the water company Aguas de Cieza attended a presentation yesterday, Arbor Day, given by Doctor Árbol, the company responsible for drafting the planning and design of pilot projects for the implementation of the 2017-2032 Strategic Plan for Urban Ecology and Biodiversity. The Councilor for the Environment, Antonio Moya, stated that “this document will be submitted for approval at the next plenary session and, together with the Strategic Plan for the Master Plan and Management Plan for Urban Trees and Green Spaces in the municipality of Cieza, already approved by the plenary session, will represent a significant medium- and long-term shift in policies aimed at improving the city's tree stock and green spaces, which are key to the municipality's climate change efforts.”
During the last few months, the Departments of Environment and Services and the company Aguas de Cieza have worked on reorganizing teams, designing a communication campaign to the public and planning the training actions that will be carried out by the responsible personnel for its implementation during the next few months, for which the advice of the drafting team and specialist professionals in the matter will also be counted.
The definition of the first pilot tests, which will affect Juan XXIII and Camino de Madrid streets, will be the first visible examples of the implementation of the Plan.
The drafting of the Strategic Plan for Urban Ecology and Biodiversity 2017-2032 for Green Areas and Street Trees in Cieza is included within the Sustainable Urban Development Strategy Cieza 2025 Inclusive City, and is framed within the line of action that seeks the improvement of the urban environment, through actions in parks and gardens and the development of the organization of trees in the municipality, increasing the vegetation cover and with it the numerous benefits that the tree brings to the city, not only environmental, but also social, aesthetic and even emotional.
The total planned investment for all the actions included in this line of action is €300,000, with 80% being co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
