Strategic sectors for the economic and social development of Cieza, such as tourism, culture, the environment, and agriculture, have been approved and funded by European funds.
The work of the departments of agriculture, environment, and tourism has promoted three projects that will launch emerging sectors for the development of Cieza. Municipal sources report on the events, announced last week at the general assembly of the ADRI Local Action Group, to which the municipality of Cieza belongs, for the management of the European LEADER Funds.
Regarding the Arrest, the tourism work will be carried out in three areas: first, improvements related to the stage (projections on the façade and a reproduction of the Garden of Olives); second, improvements will be made to the layout of the space, with an "Arrest for All": creating an area for disabled people, with a sign language interpreter and Braille reading, and increasing the capacity for both attendees and the Symphony Orchestra. Finally, the project includes the composition of an original soundtrack by international composer Roque Baños.
The environmental project aims to restore the former municipal waste dump in Cieza into an environmental space. First, topsoil will be moved and spread, along with the construction of an irrigation system to allow for landscaping and the restoration of native Mediterranean species, with the aim of consolidating the environmental restoration of the former dump. Furthermore, the project aims to promote the Cieza olive tree with cultural visits and workshops.
The Culture Department is promoting accessibility improvements and refurbishment of the Gabriel Celaya Auditorium. This project includes the expansion of parking spaces for people with reduced mobility, replacement of flooring and installation of a parapet, and demolition of part of the access ramp to the dressing rooms with a landing and handrail. Furthermore, work is being done on all the stage equipment and the auditorium seating.
Finally, the agricultural project finances a Comprehensive Promotion and National and International Outreach Plan for the Cieza Peach and its Blossom. This plan promotes the Cieza yellow peach through promotional activities and funding for technological tools, including the Cieza Blossom as a unique natural phenomenon in the world and inseparable from the final product.
Finally, the Councilor for Agriculture, Tourism, and the Environment emphasized the need to implement projects that continue to improve the well-being of our citizens. This also includes promoting sustainable economic development that enhances the quality of life in Cieza. "If we rebuild new spaces and implement projects that make Cieza attractive, we will be strengthening our pride and attracting new people to come here," the Councilor concluded.
