The Royal Brotherhood of Jesus of Nazareth celebrates its 325th anniversary

The Royal Brotherhood of Jesus of Nazareth will celebrate its 325th anniversary this coming Saturday, December 2, with the inaugural ceremony at the Basilica of Our Lady of the Assumption in Cieza, led by Rafael Salmerón Pinar, former president of the Board of Passion Brotherhoods of Cieza, and with the solemn religious service officiated by the Rev. Saúl Sánchez Fernández.

The events will continue in February with two more masses. On February 3rd, the "Remembrance" ceremony will be held in conjunction with the Royal Brotherhood of María Stma. de la Soledad. As its name suggests, it consists of commemorating the novenas that both brotherhoods held during the 19th and early 20th centuries for their respective members. On February 24th, the Solemn Religious Service will take place in suffrage for the souls of the deceased members of the brotherhood, along with the welcoming ceremony for the new members, the presentation of recognition for a lifetime of devotion to Jesus of Nazareth, and will conclude with a concert of processional marches.

The first of the highlights of this anniversary will be on Saturday, March 10, where at 5:30 p.m. the Charity Festival of Procession Marches will be held in the Gabriel Celaya Auditorium.Nazarene of Cieza' three bands from the region will perform, one of each style (Music Band, Musical Group and Cornets and Drums) to showcase the three most characteristic styles of the processional music genre.

On Thursday, March 15, a conference will be held at the Holy Week House-Museum in Cieza under the title "Decoration and ornamentation of the image of Our Father Jesus of Nazareth in the diocese of Cartagena» which will be taught by Santiago Espadas Ruiz, a graduate in Art History from the University of Murcia and researcher, and whose main lines of research are related to Textile Art within the theme «Textile art at the service of religious images«.

In the month of May, from May 1st to May 13th, the exhibition "The Way to Calvary: The Iconography of Jesus of Nazareth in the Spanish Levant«. An exhibition that will focus mainly on the iconography of Jesus Carrying the Cross and Jesus Arrested, thus referring to the double facet of the Nazarene of Cieza. Images from the Region of Murcia and, if possible, from the neighbouring provinces will be on display. The presence of works of great artistic importance must be confirmed, such as a 17th-century work, as well as works by renowned 20th-century sculptors such as Francisco Palma Burgos, Manuel Juan Carrillo Marco and Ignacio Pinazo Martínez.

This same month of May, exactly on Saturday the 5th and again at the Holy Week House-Museum in Cieza, the presentation of the documentary "Three and a quarter centuries of Nazarene history"This will be a production of Redes Cofrades Cieza and the brotherhood itself. It will take us on a journey through 325 years, to see how the Brotherhood of Jesus has witnessed the passage of time in our city and to see what the brotherhood means to the people of Cieza and, in particular, to its Holy Week. This audiovisual piece will also feature its own original soundtrack, composed by the young composer from Cieza and member of the brotherhood, Antonio Jesús Hernández Alba.

After the summer break, the highlight of this anniversary will arrive: the Extraordinary Procession of the Royal Brotherhood of Jesus of Nazareth will take place on Saturday, October 6th. Taking advantage of the autumn season, the brotherhood will bring a glimpse of Cieza's Holy Week to the streets.

The events will conclude on Saturday, October 13, with a solemn religious service to mark the closing of the event.

Eight events spread over eleven months will mark the celebration of this important anniversary, not only for the brotherhood itself, but also for Holy Week in Cieza.

24/02/2018 – 7:00 p.m. – Basilica of Our Lady of the Assumption – Mass in remembrance of the souls of the deceased members of the Brotherhood. Welcome ceremony for new members and presentation of recognition for a lifetime of devotion to Jesus of Nazareth. Concert of processional marches.

 

10/03/2018 – 5:30 p.m. – Gabriel Celaya Auditorium – Charity Festival of Processional Marches 'Nazareno de Cieza'.
