The Mayor of Cieza, Pascual Lucas, and the Councilor for Works and Services, Francisco Saorín, held a meeting this week with the Director General of Water, Miguel Ángel del Amor, in which they discussed the feasibility study for a wastewater outfall in the Ascoy area to channel said water to the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP).
This project, proposed by the City Council to the General Directorate of Water months ago, is necessary to eliminate the unpleasant odors that many residents experience due to the deficiencies of the current outfall that runs through the urban area of Cieza.
After several months of technical work, the head of the Regional Government's Water Department informed the Ciezan councilors that the project is practically complete and that, in the coming days, they would be given a copy of the study for supervision and comment by municipal technicians. As stated by the Councilor for Public Works, Francisco Saorín, "as soon as we have the aforementioned document in our possession, we will begin working in coordination with the General Directorate of Water to determine the best route. This project is a priority for us."
Once the pipeline's route has been determined, the General Directorate of Water will need to carry out the required works project and tender for the project. To this end, the Mayor of Cieza has already requested an appointment with the Regional Minister of Agriculture and Water to request institutional and financial support for this vital infrastructure. According to the Mayor, Pascual Lucas, "We are confident that this proposed pipeline will provide a definitive solution to the unpleasant odor problems that many residents of Cieza have endured for years. It is another step we have taken toward achieving this civic goal."
In other matters, they also addressed the status of the wastewater collection projects for the El Maripinar area, a project historically demanded by the residents of that area, and the stormwater collection project for the Paseo de Ronda area, which is so necessary to address the problems that neighborhood faces during torrential rains.
Finally, the Director General of Water, according to municipal sources, pledged to carry out repairs to the drinking water system on La Paz Street and Glorieta de la Hispanidad, which will begin shortly.
