Cieza City Council and the Planeta Cultural and Musical Association, in collaboration with the Parish of San Joaquín, have once again prepared a series of activities to commemorate the feast of San Antón next Wednesday, January 17, in the Plaza de la Esquina del Convento.
The events will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the main atrium of the church with the traditional blessing of animals. At 7:30 p.m., Mass will be held in honor of Saint Anthony. Finally, at 8:30 p.m., a large bonfire will be lit in honor of Saint Anthony with the special burning of "La Vieja," a falla created by Juan Antonio Gómez. This final event will be accompanied by fireworks and live music with a live DJ.
On the other hand, the Cieza City Council's Services Department provides information on the rules to be followed for the celebration of the San Antón bonfires on Wednesday, January 17, as well as the locations where they can be held.
Since it is traditional for bonfires to be lit in various locations throughout the city during the San Antón festivities, the council reminds everyone that, in order to prevent damage to public roads, municipal services will spread sand in the places authorized by the City Council for lighting bonfires. Lighting fires on pedestrian crossings is prohibited. The storage of firewood or other materials for these fires on public streets will not be authorized until the morning of January 17th. Municipal services personnel will remove firewood and other equipment stored on public streets before this date.
The placement and lighting of the bonfires must be carried out with the necessary safety measures in place to prevent fires or damage to the facades of nearby buildings. To this end, there must be a responsible person at each location to oversee the smooth running of the celebration.
The authorized points are the following:
– Federico García Lorca Street with Miguel de Unamuno Street
– C/ Rafael Alberti (Bird Apartments)
– C/ Doctor Fleming with Rambla del Realejo
– C/ Garcilaso de la Vega with Fernando III the Saint
– C/ Pablo Hernández with Paseo de Ronda
– C/ Región de Murcia with Vicente Blasco Ibáñez
– C/ Julián Romea with José Martínez Caballero
– Corner of the Convent
– Beginning of John XXIII
– Blas de Otero Street
– Descent of the Chorrillo Hill

Those interested in holding a San Antón Blessing at locations other than those listed above may submit applications to the City Council registry until January 12, 2018.
