The president of the Segura Hydrographic Confederation (CHS), Mario Urrea, accompanied by the Water Commissioner, Francisco Javier García, held a working meeting with representatives of the Calasparra and Cieza Irrigation Community (CR) of the Tajo-Segura Transfer, headed by its president, Miguel Martínez.

Irrigators have expressed interest in the status of water resources in the Segura basin for planning the next irrigation campaign.

The CHS has advised them, as it has advised all farmers in general, to exercise extreme caution in water consumption, since despite the recent rains, we must be aware that we are experiencing a period of prolonged drought.

In addition, the irrigators have requested information on the cases currently being processed by the CHS, especially those relating to the requested transfer of rights and the extension they will have to request to complete construction of the intake point for the WWTP concession, as well as the concession for the Torrevieja IDAM.

The president informed them that the intake point file is being reviewed by the technical and legal services of the Water Commissioner's Office. The Water Commissioner provided some details and hopes that a decision will be made shortly. Regarding the extension, the river basin authority confirmed that it has already been granted. Regarding the Torrevieja IDAM concessions, the CHS expects them to be granted in the coming weeks.

Irrigators, in turn, have inquired about the administrative status of the strategic drilling batteries in the face of possible irrigation restrictions.

In this regard, the president of the river basin organization commented that the CHS is waiting to complete the administrative and environmental procedures to have everything ready in the coming months in case it is necessary to reopen the reservoir to compensate for the loss of water reserves once the extraordinary drought is declared.

Finally, the meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere among all participants.
