The stairs were completely deteriorated, becoming a breeding ground for dirt with corners that even posed a risk to people who wanted to access the Paseo de Ronda.
Fortaleza Street, as an access point to the Paseo de Ronda, had long suffered from poor maintenance of the urbanized area. Therefore, it is being adapted to the accessibility standard and improved, in "a project that costs a total of 45,000 euros," as reported by Councilor Francisco Saorín.
The work being carried out has a completion period of two months. They consist of the demolition of existing pavements, the reorganization of level differences, the compaction of the base with concrete and a new base, paving and furniture and new lighting.
According to the report, the existing pavement will be demolished by milling in areas where the surface is severely cracked and at the junctions between the old and new pavement. The deteriorated sidewalks and curbs will also be demolished and replaced with new elements, and a new sidewalk will be constructed.
After leveling the subgrade by adding granular material if necessary to create a platform for the sidewalk, the curbs that define its boundaries will be laid and a 10 cm thick base layer of concrete will be poured. The paving will be done with 20x10x8 cm paving stones.
The curb of the sidewalk will be made of prefabricated, horizontal concrete curbs, while the pedestrian ramps will be paved with 20x20x8 cm cobblestones with a button surface finish, set on a 10 cm HM-20/P/40/I concrete base. The paving of the vehicle ramps will be made with the same material as the existing sidewalk.
The road surface will also be rehabilitated; in the widening of the roadway, a 10 cm base layer of HM-20/P/40/I concrete will be laid, on which the continuous wearing course will be extended with the rest of the roadway.
Finally, it will be carried out by cleaning it, applying a primer, leveling layer and patching with fast-breaking cationic emulsion type ECR 0, with a dosage of no less than 1.40 Kg/m2 and a temperature between 130 ºC and 150 ºC.
When this newsroom contacted the Councillor for Public Works, Francisco Saorín, he explained that “This is just one more of the works that are routinely carried out in the different neighborhoods of the municipality to proceed with their improvement; a task that from the very beginning was the main objective of this council department.”
