A press release from the Department of Tourism states that, “Sometimes, small changes move the world. Other times, however, there are big changes that fail to move even small grains of sand. One of those small changes has been the opening of the Cieza Tourist Office, located in Plaza de España, on weekends. It may seem anecdotal, but… When do people usually go sightseeing? On non-working days, like weekends. Well, previously, the tourist office was only open Monday through Friday, which is fine during holiday periods, but not the rest of the time.”
The text continues by saying that "we are celebrating, since it has been a year since the opening hours of the Tourist Office were extended, which, together with the First Tourism Plan of Cieza'Bloom' and the promotion of cultural activities, heritage and festivals have contributed to the increase in tourism in our city."
According to statistics compiled by the City Council, over half a thousand tourists have visited the Tourist Office over the weekends since February 2017. Of these, 211 tourists were international, mostly from France and the United Kingdom. 301 tourists were domestic tourists, with the largest number from Alicante, Barcelona, and Valencia. 591 tourists came from all over the Region of Murcia, with the greatest number coming from Murcia, Cartagena, and Molina de Segura.
"All of this, without counting the organized trips that came with the package schedule. Therefore, they didn't come to the Tourist Office to inquire. We're talking about around 40,000 from February to March due to the Flowering Season."
"We know what they need," the note adds, "because a record of the topics on which information was requested has been compiled. Festivals and events, routes, and culture were the three main topics. They were repeated in the 80% of the questions asked of our technicians. The success of the First Tourism Plan has also been confirmed because when asked about the reasons for visits, the answers were cultural and nature in almost 60%."
The statement states, “Finally, we must also congratulate the operators and technicians who work in the office and make this all work. Thank you all. The service is excellent, and those who use our services acknowledge this when they appreciate it. We also have the Teodoro Mill tourist information support point, managed by AFEMCE through an agreement. This is a new tourist reference point.”
"One year of opening the Tourist Office, one year of improving the service Cieza provides to our visitors. Together, we must continue working to ensure our city continues to grow," the text concludes.
