As part of the #TeVen street cleaning and household waste awareness campaign, various activities are being carried out with the municipality's schools, activities that had to be suspended due to the pandemic. Their aim is to work with the educational community on sustainable habits and behaviors within the city, so that students in Cieza become aware of the need to protect and care for our environment and share this message with their families.
Currently, workshops are being held with the participation of 12 schools, including students in grades 1 and 2, as well as students in special education. These workshops include games and activities designed to help children learn about urban waste and recycling in a fun and engaging way. In addition, there is a presentation on the duties of the municipal street cleaning and waste collection staff, given by employees of Aguas de Cieza and Entorno Urbano. The presentation also addresses the difficulties these staff face in carrying out their work due to improper waste management practices by the public.
The talk dynamically addresses the tasks performed and the daily challenges faced by workers responsible for park and garden maintenance, street cleaning, and household waste collection. These problems stem from a lack of public awareness and could be easily solved if everyone cooperated.
The main difficulties are:
Pet waste not collected by owners: there are currently 17 specific bins in the Paseo Ribereño area, only for this type of waste, and bags are available for collecting it.
Sunflower seed shells, bags, cans, etc., are thrown on the ground in parks: the municipality has 650 bins, so there is usually one nearby to deposit these small waste items.
Furniture left on public roads without a prior appointment for its removal: there are different alternatives for disposing of them correctly, such as the permanent recycling center (Monday to Friday, mornings and afternoons, and Saturdays until midday), the mobile recycling center, an appointment service by phone at 968456322 or via WhatsApp at 693927778, or depositing them at the seven bulky waste collection points distributed throughout the municipality on the established days and times.
Garbage left outside the containers and outside the established hours causes bad odors: organic waste should be deposited between 7:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., always in a closed bag and inside the containers.
Papers, chewing gum and wrappers scattered on the ground: chewing gum sticks to the ground and is very difficult and costly to remove. Cieza even has specific bins for collecting it; they are shaped like lips, but they can be deposited in any other bin.
All these problems stem from the misuse of municipal services by residents, resulting in slower and less efficient cleaning efforts. This means fewer areas are cleaned because there is less time available. Therefore, it is crucial that we all cooperate and share this information. If we all work together, we can gradually make our town cleaner.
It's not the one who cleans the most who is the cleanest, but the one who makes the least mess! #TEVEN
